  • The 32 hectare (80 acre) site is being transformed from former industrial lands into a sustainable, mixed-use, pedestrian-friendly, riverside community. The revitalized West Don Lands will feature 6,000 new residential units, ample employment and commercial space, at least one elementary school, and two child-care centres, all surrounded by nearly 9.3 hectares (23 acres) of parks and public spaces. Largely owned by the Provincial government, the West Don Lands occupies a unique site at the original mouth of the Don River. • In 2016, underground work will commence on the highly anticipated Pat Bayly Square — a multi-faceted gathering space in the heart of downtown Ajax. This landmark project is an integral component of the new $300-million urban Vision development at the southwest corner of Bayly Street and Harwood Avenue. The first of its kind in the Region of Durham, the public square, named after the first mayor of Ajax, will serve as an educational venue and also provide amenities for daily users, community functions and cultural activities year round. The square will feature a prominent skating rink/reflective pool, an array of water fountains, cultural artwork, multi-functional spaces for public gatherings, a multi-purpose stage, seating areas, landscaping and a civic building. The contemporary design of the square will reflect the surrounding architecture and have a strong unified look. The square will play homage to the Town’s history with a special monument to honour the thousands of women who worked at Defence Industry Limited during the Second World War, and a unique pavement design reminiscent of the coding pattern on a key stream tape found in a Rockex machine, a Pat Bayly innovation. The development of Pat Bayly Square is key to the creation of a meaningful destination point in our downtown that will have lasting social and economic development benefits. Similar to Nathan Phillips Square and Yonge-Dundas Square, Pat Bayly Square is set to become one of the prime community and tourist attractions in the region. The first Vision residential tower is expected to be complete by 2016 and will consist of 25 storeys, 272 residential units, two floors of office space, and ground-level commercial. Work will immediately follow on the second tower and Pat Bayly Square, which is expected to be completed in 2018. A project of this magnitude will evolve as the development progresses. The Town is committed to keeping the community informed of changes in timing and scope, and looks forward to working collaboratively with residents and businesses to make this project a reality.

  • Medallion Corporation is pleased to announce Casa — an exciting new master-planned, mixed-use development in the heart of Emery Village. Located on the southeast corner of Finch Avenue West and Weston Road, Casa is poised to become the driving force behind the rebirth and revitalization of this ideally located neighbourhood. Upon completion, this stunning nine building development will forever change the face of the surrounding community by creating 1,400 residential units and over 48,000 square feet of prime retail space. Regent Park
The Daniels Corporation has partnered with Toronto Community Housing to re-develop Regent Park - 69 acres in downtown Toronto. These organizations share the vision of creating a healthy, sustainable community that will bring new vitality to Toronto's Downtown East. Daniels is the builder/developer for the entire community, including OneCole Condominiums, the first residential condominium in this important revitalization; OnePark West, the first condominium located on the new central park; Paintbox Condominiums, which rises from the new Arts & Cultural Centre, known as Daniels Spectrum; and next door to that, One Park Place. The revitalization restores a diversity of architecture that matches surrounding neighbourhoods, reconnects Regent Park to Toronto's grid of streets and avenues, and includes the creation of new commercial spaces and community facilities including a bank, grocery store, aquatic centre, new community centre, resturaunt and an Arts & Cultural Centre. A key tenet of the revitalization is including both rent-geared-to-income and market units - together in the same community. When the Regent Park revitalization is completed over the next 10 to 15 years, 12,500 people will live in 5,115 units across 69 acres of the largest publicly funded community in Canada. The plan includes the replacement of the 2,083 existing social housing units in Regent Park with new, energy efficient, modern units and the introduction of approximately 3,000 market units for sale. Beyond the physical infrastructure, the revitalization is acting as a catalyst for social and economic change with more than 465 jobs already created for local residents. Over the next several years, as the revitalization continues, Regent Park will undergo a remarkable transition that will mean big changes and exciting opportunities for residents new and old.
